A New Primary School Plans Rest into the School Day
Guang'an Primary School was officially opened on August 28, 2024, in Guansheng New Area, Guang'an District, Sichuan. The new campus serves students from Grade 1 through Grade 6 and was planned with 48 teaching classes and 2,160 places.
The project was supported by funding from the East-West cooperation school improvement program in Guang'an District. The school said that more than RMB 800,000 supported student desks and chairs and campus culture work, helping create a warm, efficient and modern learning environment for students who remain on campus at midday.
800 Reclining Desk-and-Chair Sets for Grades One to Six
The school purchased and put 800 reclining multifunctional student desk-and-chair sets into use for students across Grades 1 through 6. During lessons, the sets retain the familiar form of a classroom desk and chair. At the midday-rest bell, students pull out the footrest beneath the chair and lower or adjust the backrest. In a few seconds, the set changes into a small rest bed within the classroom.
The arrangement gives students a dedicated place to rest without moving to another room. It keeps lesson and rest functions within the same classroom setting, so the furniture serves the full school day rather than a single activity.
Everyday Details Support Both Learning and Rest
The multifunctional sets include large drawers and mesh storage baskets for learning materials. Side hooks provide a place for schoolbags, while rounded desk edges help reduce the chance of students striking a sharp corner during daily movement around the classroom.
Height markings on the sides of the desk-and-chair sets make adjustment easier for different students. The furniture can be set to a suitable learning and rest height, combining individual adjustment with the practical demands of a primary-school classroom.
A More Comfortable Midday Break for Students
Students describe the change through the difference between the old and new rest positions. Zhang Yaxi from Class 2 of Grade 5 said: “Unlike resting face-down before, when my arms hurt against the desk, I can now lie back in the chair for lunch break. It is much more comfortable.”
